Beer Review – Breckenridge 471 Small Batch Double IPA

The new bar is up, running, and has begun to get stocked with some excellent beverages.  The first review of those beverages is a the 471 Small Batch Double IPA from Breckenridge Brewery.   

What would you add to a new home bar??

So I haven’t posted anything in several months. (The guys have been sure to point out my lack of posts).   Work, family, and life in general has consumed much of my writing time leaving only enough spare time for the occasional sarcastic comment.

The largest thing that has eaten up much of my free time is the design, planning, and construction of our home’s first floor renovation but it’s finally done.  The renovation just wrapped up this past week and my favorite piece of the renovated space is my new bar area (or as my kids call it: “Daddy’s Little Beer Kitchen”).

As you can see from the pic above my booze center is an empty blank slate.  It awaits it’s first beer, spirit, and/or cool bar tool.  So as I decide what will be included in the new bar I figured would ask everyone the following question:

The fact that my future brother-in-law (@Wisk_E) keeps dropping mind blowing North Carolina brews on me goes a long way to erase the mental image of him “spooning” with my little sister.  His latest delivery of craft brew goodness include some brews from Olde Hickory Brewery (Hickory NC).   There were five Olde Hickory Brews in this package four of which are reviewed below.

So I haven’t posted anything in a while.  I have a dozen or so reviews and recaps to post, including details from a righteous trip to CO.  The guys have been giving me a hard time about my lack of writing but work/life has been sucking up all my time.  But on this the most holiest of beer drinking seasons (Philly Beer Week) I figured I should at least throw up a progress report of some of the things I have hit so far.

Brew News: The Randall Jr. – Is Sam Calagione Possessed By Billy Mays?

Let me preface this post by saying that I know this is the guys at Dogfish Head (DFH) doing a goofy, spoofy video, and if it was a fictional product, it would be a good laugh, but this is for a real product, and I think Sam Calagione, in his quest to sell “Slightly Off-Center Products”, has gone too far and actually become possessed by the ghost of the late, slightly off-center infomercial king, Billy Mays.

The genesis of this post was G-LO emailing me the YouTube video posted below to provoke a response, because he knows that I have a Hate/Love relationship with Dogfish Head. In fact, it would be better to characterize it as a Hate/Respect relationship. I respect DFH, because it’s hard to argue that they’re not an important brewery in the growth of the craft
