Whisky Review – Scotch Malt Whisky Society Cask No. 48.26 and Cask No. 125.51

SMWS December Outturn 2012

As I start most of these posts, a couple of weeks ago, G-LO received the following four whisky samples from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America:

  • Cask No. 3.184 aka “Arabesques of ash and high kicks of coal”
  • Cask No. 48.26 aka “In a wild garden, late summer”
  • Cask No. 125.51 aka “Perfumed sweetness and zesty fruits”
  • Cask No. G9.1 aka “Sweet and sour mélange”

With this shipment (the December Outturn), G-LO chose Cask No. 3.184 and Cask No. G9.1 (you can see his review here). That left me with Cask No. 48.26 and Cask No. 125.51.  Truth be told, I knew from past experience that the 125.51 was from Glenmorangie. As I really do enjoy the distiller, I began with Cask No. 155.51. But first, the tasting notes from the Society for Cask No. 125.51: Continue reading

  • Cask No. 42.10 aka “Straightforward, sweet and spicy”.
  • Cask No. G2.2 aka “A vaudeville act”.

Once again, I have to give credit to G-LO’s ability to work the twittersphere and ensure that our monthly shipment is right on schedule. With this shipment, G-LO chose Cask No. 9.62 and Cask No. 29.104, and gave me Cask No. 27.97, Cash No. 42.10 and Cask No. G2.2.  (G-LO is very good at sharing.) Since I sampled the bottles in numerical order, I began with Cask No. 27.97. But first, the tasting notes from the Society for Cask No. 27.97: Continue reading

November 2012 SMWSA 2

  • Cask No. 25.63 aka ““Poire et poivre”.

  • Cask No. 129.1 aka “A Smoky, Peachy, Yoghurt of Loveliness”.

I have to say that I am starting to love these monthly shipments and I have to admit that G-LO’s ability to work the twittersphere has become credit-worthy. Anyway, G-LO chose Cask No. 25.63 and Cask No. 128.3, and gave me Cask No.16.32, Cash No. 106.18 and Cask No. 129.1.  (He had taken three from the October shipment. So, now we are all square.) As all three had the same golden color, I decided to go in numerical order and began with Cask No. 16.32. But first, the tasting notes from the Society for Cask No. 16.32: Continue reading

Having had a number of offerings from distillery no. 93, I decided that I would begin with Cask No. 5.35. But first, the tasting notes from the Society for Cask No. 5.35: Continue reading

I can already hear the moans and groans when I say this (I’m looking at you Ed of The Dogs of Beer blog!), but we have fallen way behind in our whisky reviews! I know I know. Poor us. Or perhaps I should say, “Pour us another drink!”.

Over the past few weeks, we received two packages of whisky samples (five from their October Outturn and five from their Holiday Outturn) from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America which Limpd and I have divided equally. Here are the five that I picked, three of which I will review in this post:

  • Cask No. 25.63 aka “Poire et poivre”.
  • Cask No. 26.84 aka “Moorland after rain”.
  • Cask No. 33.113 aka “Sweet, peaceful dreams”.

Whisky Review – Scotch Malt Whisky Society Cask Nos. 2.81, 23.72, 125.48, and G1.8

A little over two weeks ago, I received our third batch of whisky samples from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America which included the following:

  • Cask No. 2.81 aka “Black tea in a greenhouse”.
  • Cask No. 23.72 aka “A big, eye-watering slap”.
  • Cask No. 125.48 aka “Old-fashioned tea chests and maple candy”.
  • Cask No. G1.8 aka “A bag of assorted boiled sweets”.

As we have done with the first two batches, Limpd and I split the four samples 50/50. Limpd chose Cask No. 2.81 and Cask No. 125.48, and I chose Cask No. 23.72 and Cask No. G1.8. Rather than post our reviews on an individual basis, we have decided to join forces and review all four whiskies in one post.

Round 2!

A couple of weeks ago, G-LO received the following four whisky samples from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America:

  • Cask No. 76.84 aka “Feisty and zesty”.
  • Cask No. 39.83 aka “Yummy and mouth-watering”.
  • Cask No. 4.153 aka “Kerosene delight”.

G-LO chose Cask No. 76.84 and Cask No. 4.153, and gave me Cask No. 39.83 and Cask No. 53.157.  As it is Tasting Tuesday, I decided to take my homework seriously and then offer a combined review. I gave each of the samples a quick nose, and given the huge peat notes of Cask No. 53.157, decided that I would begin with Cask No. 39.83. But first, the tasting notes from the Society for Cask No. 39.83: Continue reading
