Philly Beer Week — Wookie Progress Report

So I haven’t posted anything in a while.  I have a dozen or so reviews and recaps to post, including details from a righteous trip to CO.  The guys have been giving me a hard time about my lack of writing but work/life has been sucking up all my time.  But on this the most holiest of beer drinking seasons (Philly Beer Week) I figured I should at least throw up a progress report of some of the things I have hit so far. Beer Review – Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA

As a part of a mixed six, I picked up a bottle of the Hopsecutioner IPA from the Terrapin Beer Company. I have had the beer on tap before but have never gotten around to a review (we have reviewed the Rye Squared, the Hop Karma IPA, formerly India Style Brown Ale and the Monk’s Revenge). So, I am familiar with the beer and the brand. I have found that the folks at Terrapin roll out a strong product line with offerings that are well balanced and quite varied and are definitely Continue reading

Beer Review – Terrapin Beer Company Monk’s Revenge

Looking for something out of the ordinary, I stopped for a mixed six, and picked as one of the bottles a Monk’s Revenge from the Terrapin Beer Company. I have tried several other Terrapin products, i.e. their Rye Squared, Hop Karma IPA (formerly India Style Brown Ale) and the Hopsecutioner IPA, so since I am familiar with the brand, I know that their offerings Continue reading

Wet Wednesday Beer Lineup…

This is what I do on a Wednesday night when there’s a four day weekend on the way…

Kick back, relax, and have a couple beers with my Peeps.

Sudsy Sunday Report – 5/15

It’s another wrap-up to a beautiful weekend (or start to a new week).  Me and the boys (LimpD and G-lo) connected for a session on the deck with some new brews.  They included: Continue reading

Beer Review – Terrapin Rye Squared

Every other Thursday or so the boys and I celebrate “Thirsty Thursday”.  It is nothing more than an excuse to bust open some fine craft beers midweek and forget that it’s not the weekend yet.  A few weeks back G-lo was sans family so instead of drinking at home the two of us decided to hit our favorite Beer Bar (The Pour House) for some brew on draft.  We had some great brews but I was particularly impressed by Terrapin’s Rye Squared. Beer Review – Terrapin India Brown Ale

Last Friday, I took it upon myself to introduce a coworker to a neighbor in the hopes of furthering our relationship with the neighbor’s employer. Of course, my motives may not have been all altruistic as a free lunch was in store for me. We selected the Good Dog as it falls about halfway between our offices and has the relaxed atmosphere to lend itself to a quick-lunch and good conversation.

A quick review of the beer menu brought a bottle of Terrapin India Brown Ale to my eye. This American brown ale is a product from the Terrapin Beer Company with an ABV of 6.2%. The aroma is a little bit floral, a lot bit hops but the combination yields a flavorful, well carbonated brew. However, after a quick check of the Terrapin site, I am a little concerned that Terrapin has discontinued this product and renamed it Hop Karma. This leads me to suspect that the Good Dog either doesn’t turn over their stock as quickly as I would have expected or got some deal from their distributor to push some discontinued products.

Before

After

As the bottle could have been fresher, I would give this beer a B. The average score at the Beer Advocate is a B so I would welcome the chance to try a new bottle of Hop Karma and see if there is a difference.
